Clever guitar peeps: what is 'finger style' on guitar?

ive been playing guitar for a couple years, im fairly bad at it
though.. just now i heard of 'finger style' and i dont even know what
that is?!! is it when your right hand picks the strings instead of
just strumming or? :S

what is the name of all the different styles, like i just put my left
fingers on the chords and strum with my right?? and what is the real
simple ones where you just use one string and pick it (like how anyone
can play smoke on the water lol).. also is there a name for that
really simple but pretty sounding thing where (same as the one i said
above) ya just slide your finger on one string (usually the bottom)
but then pluck the 3 bottom chords... :S none of this probably makes
any sense haha im sorry!!
